Happy (and Creative) Women's Day! :)

Is there anyone celebrating today? :)
Well...here on Mixed Media Place we don't really need any special occasion to play with delicious media, paints and stamps but today we actually have a reason to celebrate - Girl Power! ;)
Just take a look!

In some countries March 8th is a very special day. It's Women's Day. I couldn't miss this occasion and prepared my "power of femininity" collage with special dedication for all of you, Ladies. :)
I wish you that every day is full of happiness and love for you.

A simple way to create an interesting background for mixed-media collages is to combine tissue with matte medium. Just paint the canvas with a coat of matte medium, apply pieces of tissue paper and let the medium dry.  Next, apply gesso and create texture with acrylic paints and modelling paste.

When the surface is dry, stamp the designs with black Archival Ink. I chose Prima Vintage Vanity Book stamp and 3rd Eye Lines.

I also discovered a new use for my lovely Gelatos. I made a homemade mist mixing water and small pieces of pistachio gelatos. I needed exactly this colour to paint lace in my work. It's really a simple way to make a unique shade of colour of mist that may be missing in your collection.

I cut some small pieces of gelatos means using my knife and mixed them with water. My tip to make the colour lighter or more pastel is to mix such gelatos mist with white Dylusions Ink Spray.

Most of the paper techniques described here on Mixed Media Place blog can also be applied to fabric. I love mixing different materials, bases, media and techniques. In this work I added a layer of embossing powder to the fabric to create a unique embellishment.


The finishing touch of my composition are two clay buttons painted with Luminarte Silks Azurite and purple acrylic paint mixed with white gesso.

I hope that I encouraged you a little bit to experiment with different media, materials and techniques.

Yes, it’s true. To create this full of colours and designs background I used exactly the same media as I usually do creating mixed media backgrounds on paper.

Spróbujcie sobie wyobrazić, że poniższy kolaż w moim żurnalu powstał zaledwie z dwóch rodzajów tkanin w kolorze bieli i ecru?

Naprawdę. Do stworzenia tego kolorowego tła na tkaninach użyłam dokładnie tych samych mediów plastycznych, które zwykle używam tworząc tło na papierze.

I didn’t plan beforehand what I would do, it was simply a spontaneous process using different techniques with different media. I decided on two types of fabrics: natural cotton and nonwoven, translucent synthetic polyester.

Rozpoczynając pracę nie miałam żadnego planu w głowie, to był spontaniczny proces tworzenia przy użyciu różnych technik i mediów. Wybrałam dwa rodzaje tkanin do stworzenia tego kolażu: naturalnej bawełny oraz specjalnej, przeźroczystej włókniny poliestrowej.

Painting and stamping are a great starting point for any fabric project. I used different techniques to create interesting pieces that I could later use on my journal base.  

One of my general rules is that each layer is made in a different technique. I like this rule very much, also when I work with paper because the result is always  multidimensional and unpredictable.

Doskonałym punktem startowym podczas tworzenia tkaninowych projektów jest malowanie i stemplowanie bezpośrednio na materiale. Podczas tworzenia kolażu użyłam kilku takich technik, aby stworzyć interesujące fragmenty, które później wykorzystałam w mojej kompozycji.

Jedną z ważnych zasad, którymi się kieruję używając tkanin w moich pracach to tworzenie poszczególnych warstw  poprzez używanie za każdy razem innej techniki mediowej. Dzięki tej zasadzie mogę uzyskać nieprzewidywalny i wielowymiarowy efekt.

At the beginning  I stencilled acrylic paints directly onto the fabric. I used two types of stencils from Sunrise Sunset collection designed by Finn with small and bigger pattern.

Next, I sprayed the fabric with different colours of Dylusions Ink Spray and stamped with StazOn Inks.

Finally, I used LuminArte Silks to create some contrasting accents on my background.

Na początku przy użyciu maski oraz farb akrylowych stworzyłam wzór na tkaninie. Użyłam dwóch rodzajów masek, z większym i drobniejszym wzorem,  z kolekcji Sunrise Sunset zaprojektowanych przez Finn.

Następnie kolorowałam tkaninę mgiełkami Dylusions Ink Spray oraz stemplowałam tuszami StazOn różnokolorowe wzory.

Na koniec użyłam farbek LuminArte Silks aby stworzyć pewne kontrastujące elementy na tkaninach.

Oto jak wyglądało ostatecznie stworzone w ten sposób tło, baza, którą później pocięłam na mniejsze części i stworzyłam z nich kompozycje.

To make your own extraordinary composition you can use whatever you can imagine: metal and paper embellishments, stickers, buttons, lace, paper tissue, ribbons, twine...anything goes...

Aby stworzyć własna, niepowtarzalną kompozycję, możecie wykorzystać wszystko co tylko podpowie Wam wyobraźnia: metalowe lub papierowe dodatki, naklejki, tekturki, guziki, sznurek, koronki…dosłownie wszystko.
