Eat It!

Art is not only about pretty and gentle.
It's a powerful way to express everything that bothers us, that makes us angry.
It's a perfect way to send a message to the world...

This piece is an expression of my anger and disagreement.

My protest against the image of a woman that we are being fed with every day.

Against women being treated like an object that can be:

Eaten. Chewed. Swallowed.



  

To create this piece I used an old spoon that I bought at a flea market, a Barbie doll head and a light bulb base.

All the metal parts were covered with gesso and then painted with Vintaj Patina paints and alcohol inks applied with a sponge.

The handle of the spoon was sprayed with a pink Glimmer Mist.

I rubbed some gel medium in the doll's hair and arranged the "hairstyle". When it dried, I painted it with using acrylic paints and a blue Glimmer Mist applied with a paintbrush.

I glued the head to the spoon with Glossy Accents and also used this product to create the transparent drop on the handle.

Waiting

Art journals are like a haven, a safe place to express your emotions, to let go and find a new strength.

That's the beauty of art journaling and today we have a truly extraordinary example...

Today I'd like to show you my journal spread about waiting. Oh, how I hate waiting... Waiting makes me both mad and sad. ;-)

I made this spread during one lonely evening when my girlfriend was on a business trip. In this artwork I used  a picture of my girlfriend from a time when it was her who was waiting for me.

I started my journal pages with gluing different sorts of materials on my primed with gesso pages - cardboard, scrapbooking papers, embellishments, paper tape, lace etc.

Next I used blue acrylic paints - blue being a perfect choice to express my sadness, my feeling blue on that day.

Then I stamped my pages with little dots using black ink and splashed my work with a blue Twinkling H2O.

On the day when I was creating this piece, I also felt very angry because of her trip, so I took crayons and rapidly scribbled on my work.

I think it's good to pour our emotions onto paper, it lets us find some distance from harsh reality.

Hello, Dears!

Today, I'd like to show you a layout about one special meeting. Our Polish part of Mixed Media Place Design Team meets from time to time and we always have so much fun. We laugh, gossip and even some of us (like me!) make art journal spreads during such meetings. Oh, how I love hanging out with my art friends.

I started my layout with priming my background page with gel medium.  It protected my page from water - I was planning to use a lot of water-based mediums and I didn't want my paper to get destroyed.

Next, I put a thin layer of clear gesso that gave a matte, rough coat which I personally prefer.

After it dried, I've used Kasia's stencil and molding paste to create some texture.

Next, I glued different sorts of materials on my page - cardboard, scrapbooking papers, paper tape, lace etc. I decided to arrange them in a messy way.  To emphasize the messy nature, I splashed my layout with diluted black ink and Twinkling H2O. At the end, I glued a photo taken during one of our DT art dates and highlighted it with a frame painted with Silks.

Being like... {Episode 2}

Today, she's here sharing a new stunning work resulting from her "art meetings".

As you maybe know, sometimes I like to experiment with my art and do these creative exercises when I try to imitate one of the artists I admire. Maybe "imitate" is not exactly the right word. Drawing inspiration sounds a lot better. :)

Just for a little while I want to be someone else...

And how about the king of altered art today?

For a long time, Michael de Meng's artworks have been a huge inspiration for me. And that was the case in this piece - I tried to recreate Michael's unique feel and atmosphere. I hope I succeded.

First of all, I primed my canvas, a chipboard and an old brush with gesso and white sand paste. I applied them with a sponge. The sand paste is a great medium to give some interesting texture.

The next step was painting my primed objects with gold crackle texture paste. Before glueing the chipboard, I sprayed it with a Glimmer Mist.

Having everything prepared that way, I started painting with Inka Gold pastes. They are super easy and quick to apply, they dry fast and add a beautiful mettalic effect.

You can use them with a wet or dry brush or apply with a soft cloth or sponge.

The final touch was painting with acrylic paints and Glimmer Glaze that are just perfect for painting metal surfaces. I glued the metal embellishments - gel mediums work great with heavy elements and finally, I added some Liquid Pearls that make ideal delicate accents.
