Caverns by Georgie Connelly

Hello My Creative Lovelies!

Today I’m sharing a mixed media piece, which is made up of memories from our summer holidays. My son and I collected shells at beach and it was great fun. We were talking about where these wonderful finds would have come from and we were talking about magical caves and caverns in the sea. So, inspiration for this piece was born.. and even my son had a go at getting messy with modelling paste and laying some shells. He was very happy to have placed the centre shell too.

After we had placed our shells and left to dry (over night) I then went over with an Art Alchemy Paint in Opal Blue-Gold, covering the whole piece. I loved how this colour left the shells with their orangey-gold hue, but kept the white that gorgeous pearly blue with gold highlights.

After the first layer was on it was then time to add depth, using black gesso and water to spritz and spread, adding in and around the shells. Then I applied the same approach with various blues in the Art Alchemy range.

Then some Lindy’s sprays in Cattail Copper Brown, Sassy Sapphire and Time Travel Teal. All different shades add layer and depth of colour.

Once everything was dry I added the the finishing sea sparkle with Silver Glitter Glass, Micro Beads and teal coloured glitter.

It was so wonderful to have these summer memories come flooding back with our found items from the beach. And to share the process with my son again was a wonderful gift.

Thank you so much for joining me here today.

Massive hugs
Georgie (and son) ;)
