Mystery box by Cristin

Hello! Today I created a little video for you using supplies that I received in a box from Mixed Media Place!

The contents of the box were a secret - so I had no idea that I would receive. In the first part of the video I will show you everything that came in the box, and next I will show you what I made!

Hello lovely mixed media people.

Today I have a “shimmery” little page to show you that highlights Art Ingredients Mica Powders and Micro Beads. If you haven’t yet explored the possibilities of Mica Powder, I would really encourage you to try. They are very easy to use and they give a beautiful soft shimmery effect without being garish or too “glittery”.

I was thinking how Mica Powder is like the ‘dust’ that comes off of the wings of a moth, and it was that idea that inspired this page.

Roughly painted the centre of my page with Art Basics Heavy Black Gesso. I feel the shimmer of the powder shows up better on a darker background.

Stamped around the edges using images from Finnabair’s new Cling Stamp range.

I mixed Blue Mica Powder in a misting bottle with a little water and sprayed it ONTO (not through) the Sunrise Sunset Doily Stencil then flipped it onto my black background.

I used the really lovely “moth” stamp from 3rd Eye and painted its wings with Gold and Copper Mica Powder mixed with a little water.

I cut them out and then set them flying to the glow of the lamp.

Around the lamp is gold wire, Micro Beads in Copper and Pollen and some little bits of gold foil.

All these bits are stuck down with Art Basics Soft Matte Gel.

Just like moths are drawn to the light, we are compelled to create, to express ourselves, to show and record stories visually, to explore and play with different media, to have fun and dance in the light that is art.

Art Is Good For You

Are you ready for another beautiful mixed media inspiration?

Do you have a box of treasures at home? Maybe it's time to take a look inside? ;)

I have a box filled with all kinds of trinkets and interesting little objects.

I reach for them from time to time when I create my projects and this time I also found inspiration in my special box.

I didn't do any careful planning. I just had a blank canvas (30x30 cm.) that I covered with a layer of Gesso and some Modeling Paste applied through a stencil.

And then my Muse went away...

I created some other projects in the meantime and decided to come back to my canvas.

I sketched a dreamy profile with a pencil and then went over it with a black pen.

It made me remember how much I love drawing, I promised myself to do it more often.

Are Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays among your favorites, too? I used two shades of blue and I also sprayed some mist that I created mixing blue Mica Powder with water. It gave a nice metallic effect.

And then I reached for my box of treasures...

I chose old paint tubes, old paintbrush and a rusty pen nib. I also took Prima embelishments (metal and resin) and some Mechanicals and painted everything with gesso and sprayed with the same mists I used on my background.
