Christmas Baking

Hello mixed media fans !

Just before the weekend some extraordinary art for you!
Janka yet again is giving new life to an old and unused items.

I like Christmas. In this magical time I love baking. I have many cake molds, some of them were given me by my mum, some belonged to my granny who was baking best cookies ever.

Some of them are too old to be used for baking but... they can always be used in an art project.

I made them looking even older and created some decoration. Do not through old metal rubbish !

I pained my molds with black chalkboard paint. I highlighted mold shape with Inka Gold in Aquamarina and Ice Blue colours. In some places I added micro beads by sticking them with soft Matte Gel. Also here I highligted the texture. I put together 7 pieces of mold by using stong wire. I used gearwheel to imitate the skirt.

I added cheese cloth on top and sprayed it with sprays. I added Sandra's Evertson resin as my focal point with metal screw. Finally I added metal flower. As my finish touches I wrapped my doll with thin wire. I used same wire to create the wings. Tiny bit of ribbon and here we have ! My fairy is done.

I like this piece a lot... because doll's dress is holding on wire... all is moving and looking as if my fairy is dancing.

Sardines? Oh yes, please!

A fantastic idea how to alter a used and unwanted food can.

I like using materials which were originally designed for something else. I like altering those things, giving them second life and making them very special, even if I thought to throw them out at first.

I created a frame. Pardon... first, we ate the sardines from this metal can. :)

To begin, I cleaned the metal can keeping the opening as a hanger.

I covered my frame with white gesso and dried. I painted all with Silks.

I glued some paper bits inside the can to create my background. I used some pages from an old book and silk paper.

I added some Micro Beads which I coloured with Silks Bolivian Blue paint - I love this colour, it's my favourite colour which I use in most of my projects.

To create some stains I used sprays from Lindy's Stamp Gang.

The little wings are a stamp from Prima Moth Wings set. I stamped two sets which I cut out to create a dimensional effect. I added a small metal embellishment in the middle. 

I coloured everything with Inka Gold rubs and added a sticker from Destination Unknown collection. Hook on the back and my picture frame is ready.

Cans are great for frames, you can add some photographs in the middle too and it will look great !

Hello SweetiesToday I'm up on Mixed Media Place blog with a new project that I would say useful.
I don't know if you noticed but I'm addicted to the Twinkling H2Os. For those who don't kown them, they are watercolors with micas and minerals that give them a beautiful shine. I already  had a box in which I store my H2Os but it became too small ...  never mind I made a new one with a lot of space ...

As I told you, I wanted something useful as I take my H2Os with me everywhere : so I avoided volume and I chose to make something resistant.

Here is the first box which became too small, as you can see (meaning that I can't add new colors anymore).

After making the box, I covered it with two layers of Black Gesso. Then I added a design with a stencil and Graphite Paste. The Graphite Paste has a texture that looks like stone when dry: it's grany and shine with micas. When dry, I covered everything with Soft Matt Gel.

Then I dry brushed some blue-green shades of Silks (Bolivian Blue, Vintage Mint and African Jade). I continued with a diluted Autumn Leaf Silks that I applied liberaly and removed partly with a babywipe. 

And here is my finished box in which I can now store all my H2Os as well as some Primary Elements.
