Human skull with horns? Why not. Art shouldn’t have to limit us, let's do what we want, what is currently in our soul.

When I prepared this project, I had in mind the connection between humans and nature. Hence I selected accessories (horns, flowers, cones) and stuck them to the human skull. We can find many skulls in Finn products. I chose transfer for this project.  I created the magical background with Liquid acrylic paints. I used one of the magical pastes to create more magic. It’s never enough magic😊

Frozen ATCs by Julia Chorna

Hello, mixed-media fans!

I came to you with three frozen ATC cards on this beautiful winter day.

Here is a quick recipe for how to make them 

1. Cover your basis with white gesso;

2. To make your card more interesting you can add a pattern through the stencil;

3. Add crackle paste;

4. Prepare everything for composition:

- die-cuts

- ephemerals

- laces 

- plaster figures

-  some flowers 

5. Layer all elements alternating them;

6. Use some paints and waxes on your project 

7. Add toppings on the top.

Metal Biscuit Tin Alteration by Louise Crosbie

 

Hello again.

I’m back with my December project. 

I’ve altered a metal biscuit tin bought a couple of Christmases ago. It’s actually a music box too as a novelty. 

After making last month's snowy project where I started with black gesso, I was keen to do one with similar colours, starting with a white gesso base. 

I didn’t have much of a plan other than using ultramarine and Prussian blue along with lots of white so I just gathered some bits and bobs in my little tray and started. The plan always seems to take shape as I progress so I decided to trust the process. If it didn’t work out, I could always add gesso and start over lol.

I’ve made a process video which is about 42 minutes long (sorry).

I’ve added homemade texture for snow using some mini art stones, gesso and 3D gel (more about that in the video). And I’ve used a fair bit of sparkle (crushed ice, pixie paste, glitter) to add some winter magic. Sadly, as we all know, it’s hard to get photos of that.

I hope the video explains how I’ve put this together but I’m always happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi again. 

Well, the Winter is here and I get to do lots of snowy, frosty sparkly, winter, and Yule projects. 

I kicked it off with this Finnabair-inspired canvas. I didn’t plan too far ahead and just let the process guide me. 

I did know I wanted to use this lovely photo by photographer Antonio Friedemann.

I also knew I wanted to practice this style of composition which  I’ve learned from Finnabair over several different classes. 

What I hadn’t decided on in advance was colour, mediums, day or night, dark or light. But I did know I absolutely wanted it to be winter themed. 

This is how it ended up. A lovely metallique and mica finish to it with lots of sparkle and bling.
