volant per tempus by Georgie

‘volant per tempus’
Which translates from Latin as ‘fly through time’. All my journals to date have a latin name, as I find that there is something magical and mysterious about the language. And usually my books have a story to go with them too :) somewhere in the process of its creation I get lost in a tale of magic and fantasy, building a past life for the journal.

I have used an array of gorgeous Finnabair products, from her trusty mediums through to her Mechanicals.

The Mechanicals you can see in this photo have been touched and smudged with Faber Castell Big Pitt Markers and then heat set, to get the discolouration. I love Finnabair’s Mechanicals range and it is so easy to build up an interesting focal in a matter of minutes!

Black Gesso was applied to the board underneath before the paper is applied and sealed with Soft Gel Matte Medium. This is a must for a project like this to secure the paper and then to allow the blending and layering of distressing colour on top. Also, visible brush strokes adds extra interest to the aged look. With regards to the leather binding, I lightly cut and distressed, otherwise it looked to new compared with the rest of the book.

Here you can see the wonderful Rust Paste used over a Scrapiniec piece to help frame the central focal point.

I used a resin, and left it to set within the clock but also let it flow over and move so it wasn’t neat or perfect, to hopefully add to the mystery of an older, less sophisticated time. Over the top of the resin I applied the same method of smudging a Faber Castell pen to darken the resin, first with a brown, then a black at the edges of the clock.

Please see the list of of all products used below and thank you so much for stopping by today. I wish you all a very happy and creative 2017!!

Hugs,
Georgie
