Destiny Is Calling

Many of us have a special spot for vintage photos in our hearts, wouldn't you agree?
And when a photo comes with a touching story - some exceptional Art is bound to happen...

A couple of days ago, my dad send me a little surprise by mail: a photo of his dad!
I never knew my grandfather, he passed away long before I was born.

It's a strong and powerful thing to feel a bond with a person you never knew, be it in the photo, because you know what he meant to your loved ones.
This photo was taken a little before some important events in my grandfather's life and having him look at me, through the photograph, inspired me beyond words. I love how my art journal page turned out!

I started by applying some Art Basics Clear Gesso over the Honeycomb stencil. Once dry, I stamped the Brick stamp with Jet Black Archival ink. I glued all the tags, fabric and paper strips that I wanted to use together, after applying a bit of Distress ink on all the edges, then I glued everything to the background paper using Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel.

I diluted a tiny bit of Black Orchid Primary Elements in water and using a paintbrush added some color around my focal elements.
The finishing touch consists of five Zinc Glass Beads from Art Ingredients line glued with Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel. They look like dimensional splatters on the paper.

  3. This is just gorgeous, France! I am looooooving the white border around this very personal and vintage page. It feels as though it belongs hanging on a wall rather than bound in your book! Stunning as usual!

  4. France, I find this very inspirational. I have a photo of my great-grandfather who died in 1903. Obviously, I never met him, but the photograph has always been so special to me. I feel that you've shown me a way to honor him. Thank you!

  5. What a gorgeous page! I love how the light, feminine colors contrast with the male image without detracting from the photo.
