This month, I’m sharing this 12x12 canvas with you.
It features quite a lot of metallic flakes and is very shiny but, sadly, that doesn’t really show up in photos.
The canvas started when I used Liquid Acrylics to create a bit of a night sky background. As it had a few colours in it reminded me of nebula photos from NASA.
This thought led me to try to create an imagined scene from a world far away in another galaxy.
I glued some tissue paper showing some astronomy themes along the bottom third of the canvas.
The planet in the distance, and the ground in the foreground, were initially created using gilding glue and silver metallic flakes.
I used liquid acrylics and sprays of water over the flakes to create some super shiny colours. I allowed patches of silver to remain and parts of the tissue paper to show through.
Then I created my alien tree.
I used a prima mould for the trunk and lots of Finnabair studio mechanical leaves and flowers for the foliage.
To add a more ethereal vibe to the tree I’ve used some mélange pebbles (vintage) to look like little bubble seed pods floating out from the tree like space pollen.
And as a final touch, I used some effect paste and glitter.
