Pretty Meets Practical

We know many of you like your art creations to be useful. :)
Some time ago we showed this amazing project by France and today we present another great idea - not only will it help to organize your supplies, but will also look pretty on your desk and let you have a lot of mixed media fun creating it.

Hello Sweeties,
A little while ago I bought several wooden open boxes, the kind you use to hold paper napkins. But I used them to keep some of my mixed-media stuff like my Glass Glitter, my Silks, etc. But it wasn't really convenient. So I decided to make a little chest for the boxes which now are drawers. And here it is:

After assembling everything together I primed the cardboard with a coat of Black Gesso. When dry, I added a coat of Light Modeling Paste.
When the paste was dry to touch, I pressed an embossing folder onto it to obtain a pattern.

I then let it dry completely before adding randomly some Clear Crackle Texture Paste, White Sand Paste and microbeads.

When all the pastes were dry, meaning the day after, I started playing with Primary Elements. I used only three colors - a light blue and two gold colors.

As Primary Elements are just a blend of pigment and micas, we need something to fix them.
I used a spray fixative in order to keep the colors from mixing with each other as it might happen when using gel medium.

  2. A great idea! I love functional art! What a genius move to press an embossing folder into drying paste! I'm going to have to give that a try!
