Altered Denim Journal Cover by Georgie

Hiya!!

Today I’m showing my denim art journal. I love this journal because it means you can work separately on pages without the worry of getting other pages mucky or worse, destroyed… like I have done before in other books - doh!! So this is the perfect solution and it was about time I gave it some much needed decoration.

Before starting I gave the cover a light coating of clear gesso. I also used some … medium with some torn rags of fabric to create a base, then thinly applied some white gesso. I built up various elements of flowers, wood icons, metals to create a messy style background on which to place my focal bird. Then added another layer of white gesso.

As well as the bird focal, I chose a sentiment from the Prima Roadsigns, something with strong contrast to standout against the rest.

One of my favourite parts of the mixed media process is where you get to add all the smaller parts, I think because it is more organic, less planned… I also love the way the colour flows and drips around them these precious little pieces, but also how they ad so much texture and interest for the eye to look at.

I gave a generous layer of white crackle in random places on this. The white crackle is one of my favourite crackles ever!! It does the best crackle effect and just had to show a close up of it. Complete with art stones, flakes, glass, sugar glitter and seed beads adorning it - how perfect!

Hope you have an excellent crafty day!
Hugs,
Georgie

  1. Georgie, I do love all those bits that make up your background, and the crackle is the best I've seen! Well done! Great to see your beautiful work again! Hugs!
