Happy (and Creative) Women's Day! :)

Is there anyone celebrating today? :)
Well...here on Mixed Media Place we don't really need any special occasion to play with delicious media, paints and stamps but today we actually have a reason to celebrate - Girl Power! ;)
Just take a look!

In some countries March 8th is a very special day. It's Women's Day. I couldn't miss this occasion and prepared my "power of femininity" collage with special dedication for all of you, Ladies. :)
I wish you that every day is full of happiness and love for you.

A simple way to create an interesting background for mixed-media collages is to combine tissue with matte medium. Just paint the canvas with a coat of matte medium, apply pieces of tissue paper and let the medium dry.  Next, apply gesso and create texture with acrylic paints and modelling paste.

When the surface is dry, stamp the designs with black Archival Ink. I chose Prima Vintage Vanity Book stamp and 3rd Eye Lines.

I also discovered a new use for my lovely Gelatos. I made a homemade mist mixing water and small pieces of pistachio gelatos. I needed exactly this colour to paint lace in my work. It's really a simple way to make a unique shade of colour of mist that may be missing in your collection.

I cut some small pieces of gelatos means using my knife and mixed them with water. My tip to make the colour lighter or more pastel is to mix such gelatos mist with white Dylusions Ink Spray.

Most of the paper techniques described here on Mixed Media Place blog can also be applied to fabric. I love mixing different materials, bases, media and techniques. In this work I added a layer of embossing powder to the fabric to create a unique embellishment.

The finishing touch of my composition are two clay buttons painted with Luminarte Silks Azurite and purple acrylic paint mixed with white gesso.

I hope that I encouraged you a little bit to experiment with different media, materials and techniques.
See you next time
Justi

Great Art.
You know it by how it moves you to the very core. How restless it leaves you. How it stays with you.
From the Artist's point of view - it allows us to freely express all the emotions that sometimes simply can't be put into words.
Today's post is very special and we are joining Gayle - all our thoughts go to people in Ukraine...

War is a vile thing! No matter where or when or why it happens.

I can not help but feel saddened and very worried by recent events in Ukraine. I know I live a million miles away but today, thanks to technology, the world is made a smaller place ... the images are there for us to see, to be shocked and saddened by, even though we do not always know the truths behind the images.

My art journal page is reflective of my thoughts on war and conflict ... "There are no words".

There are no words that can adequately describe it and there are no words powerful enough to stop it!

For the base I used  "Drive All Night" paper from 7 Dots Dreamer Collection. Some stamping and embossing with white, two different stencils used, one with ink the other with texture paste. Lastly water colour paints and red acrylic paint.

Take a break. Take a breath.

Everyday worries, troubling tv news, too much work, not enough sleep...
Sometimes we need a break from it all, don't you think?
Today's layout created by Tusia is like a breath of fresh air and we are more than certain that it will make you smile. :)

Are you curious what life has in store for you? I am. And I always believe in the positive outcome. In every situation. :)
You can call it optimism. :) Yes - I am an optimist. Every difficult moment enhances our experience and gives us a new point of view.

Through the layout that you see below, I wanted to show how today becomes a memory and how expectations become reality.

The white paint is white ecoline - fluid watercolor. I love to make splashes using ecolines!

To color the 7 Dots Studio chipboard I used green PanPastel - PanPastels are very handy because they come in flat pans, closed with a clear lid and you can always use them without making any mess. :)

The background of my layout was stamped with 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk clear stamps and green StazOn and Archival ink. The green color of the paper behind the photo comes from PanPastels.

For journaling I used some Cold Country word stickers and added hand journaling using gorgeous Artist Pitt Pen from Faber-Castell.

Wishing you all a wonderful week! :)
