Creative Gym - Exercise #13

Are you ready for new adventure ?
New Creative Gym is here !

'Today is The Day'

You may create any type of art inspired by today's quote.
From cards to layouts, altered art and journal pages... be free and create some art!

This month challenge is host by our very talented Athanasia.

Hello mixed media friends!
This quote is one of my favorites because, even it is simple and short, it shows splendidness like something very important is about to happen and you can complete this quote however you like as well!
I decided to use the photo of the moodboard on my canvas and write with my permanent pen my version for the end of the quote.
I also got inspired by the colors, shine and glory of the moodboard...

For this project I used a white cardstock, coated with white gesso as a base. To create the background I used a circles stencil by Finnabair with 3D Gloss Gel and gold Mica Powder and Finnabair background stamps with black ink.

After it was all dried, I glued the embellishments: some chipboard pieces, a flower, gold thread and Finnabair mechanicals. I glued all these with 3D Gloss Gel.

The next step was to spread some Rust Mica Powder here and there and spray it with water. I dried it with the heat gun and then I glued the paper embellishments: two butterflies (made with rice paper, stamp and black embossing powder) and the photo.

As a final touch I spread several art ingredients with 3D Gloss Gel. I really love the sparkle and texture they create on the project!

Next up is our wonderful Riikka.

At first I was a bit baffled. I loved the image with the soft tones and the inspirational, strong message. But even so I didn’t get a grip of the thing nor know what to do. Then I happened to hum a song from my favorite band and noticed that it had the same phrase! After that it was then easy to find the angle to the image and know what to do.

I started the page by stamping some grid design to the background with black. When I then added the white gesso and pale blue paint on top I kept the layer thin so that the mesh looking pattern shows through. The bird in the spread is colored using Oil Pastels and then there’s glitter, too.

In my spread there’s a little bird escaping into freedom and sunshine from the dark times and captivity. The mesh looking patterns I used try to mimic the cage in a way.

Time for our amazing Janka.

Some little girls dream to become a ballet dancer that moves gracefully. I also had a dream like that. Unfortunatelly my love for dancing finished after few dancing lessons... I preferred drawing.
When my 6 years old son started dance classes I smiled. Maybe one day I will see him on the stage and I will say Today is the day !

And here we have some wonderful make from our one and only Pascale.

Hello Sweeties,

I found this little stag's head in a dollar store as well as the heart frame. As soon as I saw them I know exactly what I want to do with them, that they will be perfect for this project.

I began to prime the heart with gesso before covering it with white crackle paste. After it dried naturally, I highlighted the cracks with gold Mica Powder and a soft brush. Then I added a design with a stencil and  gold crackled paste.

The stag's head was covered with a kind of flock that I removed before covering it with black gesso. When dry, I gilded it with a iridescent Silks.

I did the same treatment to the roses. I painted the leaves with black gesso that I sprinkled some glitters before it dried. I glued all the elements with 3D Matte Gel and to finish the composition Iadded some glitters and microbeads with Soft Matte Gel.

Next up is amazing Tusia.

My art-journal spread is an effect of using lots of glittery products from Finnabair, mixed with 3D Gloss Gel.

The background was created with 3 colors of Gelatos and Finnabair Crackle Paste. I applied also 3D Gloss Gel mixed with blue glitter through one of Finnabair's stencils.

When everything dried I have added some chipboard pieces, some microbeads and glass glitter. I did also some stamping with 7 Dots Studio stamps and StazOn Golden Ink.

I played also a little with words "be" and "bee" using a flair with a bee and stamped word "happy", to say "be happy" :)

Lastly we have some treat from fabulous Anai.

Recently I like spending my evenings creating some intuitive pages in my art journal. And my favourite medium for the moment are Gelatos - probably because I bought a big set of them ;) I love how creamy, soft and versatile they are. creating blocks of colors, some basic shapes, smudging with my fingers - it's a very peaceful process. And for our challenge I was thinking about the sentence "Today is the day" - my room was full of music, my head was full of doubts and hopes, and I really wanted something positive, peaceful and powerful at the same time. I wasn't thinking at all - just adding another colors. This is what happened:

The polish word "Przebudzenie" ("Awakening") connects the whole thing. For me it's all about new starts, fresh beginnings - over and over again. I've used matte and metallic Gelatos, so there is a little bit of sparkling (so hard to show it on the picture!). I also added some stamps and stencils jut to add a little bit of interest to the background. Maybe it's not visible enough, but this pages are full of emotions. Art journal seems to be my art diary recently. Very private, encrypted and personal.
