Us by Anai

Many effects can be achieved by using mixed media.
Anai created amazing art by mixing different mediums, she played with colour and texture ! Check out her special piece !

My newest work is a romantic mixed-media canvas I've created as a gift for a friend. I like to create canvases like this - experimenting with colors, textures and meanings. Spending my time working with different kinds of paints is something very calming and fulfilling. It's my getaway, my peace, my joy. It's also a great way to express myself and my feelings.

I started with creating a background using mostly Distress Paints. They are still my favourite paints - they're reacting great with water and after drying they are water resistant. How cool is that? I like using them with baby wipes to create delicate shabby effect. On the edges I added some black accents with Prima Chalkboard Paint - the blackest of the black :)
And then I wanted to create some texture. The best way was obviously a stencil. I chose the one with letters and signs, but I wanted to make them black. Adding a little bit of chalkboard Paint to the Modeling Paste did the trick. Remember - you can add color to the Modeling Paste with different kinds of media - Paints, Mica Powders or colorful sprays. It's an easy but very cool trick.
Then - just to add a little bit of interested - I've used a little bit of white gesso and gold Silks Paint to show the depth of the texture.

I wanted to add some ready elements - a key, a stars, paper tag and handmade "metal" letters. I've created them using a piece of cardboard with a chipboard letters on top and wrapping them with aluminum foil. Then a little bit of fun - adding colors with Silks Paints and white gesso just on the letter-shape. I'm actually very fond of how they've turned out. I've been planning this kind of effect for a very long time, and now I know I will use it more often :)

The last step was to add some splashes. I've used some Lindy's Stamp Gang mists and Twinkling H2O paint in a very dark grey shade. It's always my favourite way to add more color to my works and create more interesting look.

I hope you like it. I'm very happy with a final result and I hope it will be a nice element in my friend's apartment :) There is something very special in sharing my art with friends. It gives me a lot of pleasure and special meaning for my creativity.
