How are you feeling? {vol.2}

How are you today?
Are you feeling brave enough to read this post? ;)

Jak się dzisiaj macie?
Czy macie dość odwagi, żeby przeczytać dzisiejszy post? ;)

Yes, indeed, this month's Emotional challenge is all about Courage.

Otóż to. W tym miesiącu nasze Emocjonalne wyzwanie będzie traktowało o Odwadze.

This month's edition turned out to be very special indeed. Our DT members decided to share some personal stories, overcome their own artistic limitations and bravely step out of their comfort zones.

Just take a look at their amazing takes of Courage...
We hope they'll inspire you to courageously create with us!

Mamy nadzieję, że zainspirują was, abyście znaleźli odwagę, by coś z nami stworzyć!

This time our emotional theme is just right for the beginning of the new year.
I definitely need more courage - to follow my dreams, to do what I want the way I want to, to socialize more ;)

I decided to make a mixed media canvas panel but in a very different way than I usually do. It's only media here, I didn't use any paper. The only scrapbooking embellishment I've used are alphabet stickers. I also didn't use any kind of gesso, pastes or gel medium. It's all about freehand drawing and paints!

I used several kinds of paint - Ecolines, acrylic paints, Twinkling H2Os and Silks. It gave me more diversity 'cause every single one of them gives another finish. My canvas panel now has a very special kind of glamour effect :)
I must say - I really love it. And I'm sooooo happy that I had the courage (!) to it this way :) And you should know - it wasn't easy because I had a lot of doubts.

Użyłam kilku różnych typów farb - Ecoliny, farbki akrylowe, Twinkling H2O's i Silks. W ten sposób uzyskałam dużą różnorodność, ponieważ każda z tych tarb daje inny efekt i rodzaj wykończenia.

And if you'd like to see entire process of making it, shortened to a small youtube video - {here} it is.

Jeśli macie ochotę zobaczyć jak wyglądał cały proces tworzenia tej pracy (oczywiście skrócony do krótkiego filmiku) - serdecznie zapraszam {tutaj}.

Courage wasn't an easy subject for me as I'm don't usually take risks in many areas of my life. Sometimes it is easier to do what you're used to doing, to take the same path and avoid changes. So I'm always proud of myself when I decided to take some risk.

This time I was brave creating the background  from start to finisih. Modeling paste, gel medium, stamping and stencils - that's what made me happy this time. And now I know I need to work this way more often.

I made this spread the day before leaving home for the CHA to inspire some courage in myself!
The challenge was double: keep it simple and have fun. All I can say is ‘mission accomplished’! It felt so good to breathe in all the fun, letting the creative juices flow, it gave me all the courage I needed to prepare myself to leave home. I also look forward to looking back at it after the trip and to remind myself how a bit of paper and ink inspired me… courage!

I used the printed paper from the Vintage Vanity Mixed Media journal as a  base and sprayed Ecoline 717 over the checkered stencil. To avoid wasting ink, I mopped the stencil on the same paper.

All the scraps of paper on the spread are the leftover borders, recuperated after trimming my page to the right size. As I have leftovers of chicken wire on my table as well as plaster strip leftovers, I used those as embellishments. The butterfly is a leftover from my previous art journaling spread, on top of which I added a Finnabair tassel.

The biggest fight was adding the sewing, especially around the round 9th Wave element! And of course, it needed a cold porcelain heart as finishing touch. ;)

Najtrudniejsze było szycie, zwłaszcza wokół okrągłego dodatku z kolekcji 9th Wave!  A na koniec - zimne, porcelanowe serduszko. ;)

Courage is...... "never giving up"! No matter how broken, how beaten up, despondent, down and out and full of despair you may be, never give up! But it takes a lot of courage, strength and determination to rise above and take on some of the challenges that face us.

My photo of the old broken doll represents the struggles that we all face and how we can feel "destroyed" and worthless, or a situation seems hopeless. But this doll was loved......always, even in the state she is in now, she is adored.
I guess my page can seem a little "dark and gloomy", but courage is something we don't need when times are good. Courage is an emotion we have to draw on in our darkest and most challenging days to face and overcome the most difficult and hardest of times.

To uczucie, którego możemy doświadczyć w najtrudniejszych chwilach naszego życia, by przezwyciężyć wszelkie trudności.

I've used paper from the 9th Wave Collection ( Golden Sand) as well as paper napkin. I've stamped, embossed, using the Finnabair Threading Stamp and used texture paste. All colour is Distress Inks and Stains, added Mechanicals and other metal embellishments and have played with wire again....seems to be something I really enjoy adding to projects at the moment....I like the sharp, delicate lines it makes but also the strength and solidity it portrays.

I strongly believe that fortune and love favor the brave. In my life I had to take risks many times and made really brave decisions. I even had to change my life 180 degrees twice and started everything anew. But I never regretted because after some time I was convinced that it was the best thing I could do to be happy.

This art journal cover is a mix of paper, fabrics, lace, metal embellishment and all sorts of media.
First, I covered the white canvas with gesso and cut pieces of paper. Next, I created the texture using modeling paste and stencil, sprayed handmade mists from gelatos and stamped black Archival Ink. Finally, I built a small composition from fabric, lace, and a metal frame.

Ta okładka art journala to mix papieru, tkanin, koronki, metalowej ozdoby i różnych mediów.
Na początku białe płótno pokryłam gesso i pociętymi kawałkami papieru. Następnie używając maski i pasty strukturalnej, zrobiłam teksturę.

This project is all about telling myself to be brave. I said: be brave and create something outside your comfort zone and share it. I then knew I had to do something with drawing. I need the practice and I do not feel at ease with it.
I need to practice how to draw faces that are not silly or funny. The first portrait I made did not turn out very good and therefore I only wanted to share one of the eyes. I had too much going on with the background so the face turned grey like a dead person. But the eye is good.

Was that brave? Maybe not, but I didn't give up and attacked the problem in a different way and this time I am happy with the result. It is not the most beautiful face but I like it and I know if I practice my next face it might even be better. The inspiration for my second face is from an online class I took with Jane Davenport and Teesha Moore last year. I must admit I haven't had time to practise the techniques from the class so I was happy to now try them again.

Both pictures are made with Gelatos as the main medium. I love how the Gelatos look like oil paints.
At the end I used a black water pencil to write on the page a note for myself about being brave. Not easy to read but I know what it says and that is the main thing.

Have you ever seen one of this pre-war picture of children with plump cheeks under which we can find a maxim or a quotation? This photo of my mother with this huge watering can reminds me of these pictures.
The quotation I chose is « An act of Courage is always an act of Love » from Paulo Coelho.

To make the background, I created some butterflies with a stencil and some gel medium after I've chosen the place for my photo. When everything dried, I put a layer of gesso more or less thin. Then, I added colors in some places.

The butterflies were covered with transparent crackle paint as well as the small « flutter vine »
After coloring the die cut flowers with the same colors of Twinkling H2O, I shaped them as Cabbage Roses.

Wycięte motyle pokryłam przezroczystą farbą pękającą, a kwiaty pokolorowałam farbami Twinkling H2O.

Courage has many sides. So when I saw the little tags by 7 Dots Studio I had  in my drawer, they seemed perfect to share just a few sides of being courage. It takes courage to follow one's heart, to break the rules or to take chances.

I used the little tags to make three ATC's with lots of different media. It's funny how these little ones took as much time as a 12" layout!

"No matter what you face. BE BRAVE" is my art journal page. Fear is our worst enemy. I wanted to show that no matter what surrounds you and how difficult it could be, you should not allow fear to take control of you.

And now it's your turn to take the risk... ;)
